Claire DiVizio, soprano is currently studying Voice at the University of Michigan. Since her arrival in Ann Arbor, Ms. DiVizio has been very active in the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, singing four major roles with the company in the last three years (The Fairy Queen in Iolanthe, Phoebe in The Yeomen of the Guard, Katisha in The Mikado, and Mad Margaret in Ruddigore). Following her success with operetta, Ms. DiVizio began performing operatic roles with the University's School of Music in April of 2008, when she appeared as La Bergère and La Chouette in Ravel's L'enfant et les Sortileges with the School of Music's Opera Studio. In the fall of 2009, Ms. DiVizio was chosen to cover the role of the Countess in the University Opera Theatre's production of Le nozze di Figaro, and was later cast as Une Bergère in their upcoming spring production of Gluck's Armide. On the concert stage, Ms. DiVizio is gaining exposure as a sought-after interpreter of new music. In October of 2009, she appeared as the soprano soloist in the premiere of Kristin Kuster's BLEED with the University of Michigan Chamber Choir, and in the role of Sister 2 in scenes from Why I Live at the P.O., a new chamber opera by Stephen Eddins. In November, Ms. DiVizio performed two new works by student composers on the Composer's Forum, a monthly concert series put on by the School of Music's Composition Department. In 2010, Ms. DiVizio will be touring as a member of "Existential Pilot," a composer-performer collective that showcases new works by emerging composers.
